Is Costco Executive membership worth it in Canada?
In Canada, Executive costs $130 a year plus tax, $65 more than Gold Star ($65), and pays 2% back on most Costco purchases, up to $1,250 a year. It pays for itself once you spend about $271 a month on purchases that earn the reward.
From Costco.ca's membership and 2% reward pages, checked October 18, 2026.
Gold Star
Executive
Fees are before sales tax, which applies to both memberships. Costco.ca's own table shows the same math: $3,250 a year of qualifying purchases earns about $65.
What doesn't earn the 2% in Canada
Costco Canada excludes these in every province:
- Gasoline, tobacco products, and all food court items
- Prescription drugs and eye examinations
- Costco Shop Cards and gift certificates, and membership fees
- Taxes, levies, bottle deposits and environmental fees
- Costco Services, home delivery charges and administration fees
- Tire mounting, balancing and disposal fees, and oil disposal fees
- Charitable donations, postage stamps and third-party insurance payments
Quebec and Nova Scotia also exclude liquid milk and cream. Quebec also excludes all pharmacy items (including vitamins and over-the-counter medicine) and all optical centre items. If you live in Quebec, enter those in the "doesn't earn" box.
Stack it with the CIBC Costco Mastercard
The Executive 2% comes from Costco, so it stacks with the card. With the CIBC Costco Mastercard you'd earn about 3% in the warehouse (1% from CIBC plus 2% from Costco) and about 4% on Costco.ca (2% plus 2%). Gas earns only the card's rate. See the CIBC Costco Mastercard calculator.
Other Executive perks in Canada
Besides the 2% reward, Costco.ca lists a $10 monthly credit on Same-Day or Costco via Instacart orders, exclusive offers and extra discounts, additional benefits on select Costco services, and online wills. Costco can change these, so check Costco.ca for the current list.
