Costco rental cars: what you get, and is it cheaper?
Costco members can book rental cars through Costco Travel. Costco lists three perks: one additional driver fee waived, no cancellation fees, and book now, pay at the counter. Executive members also earn 2% back. Compare a Costco quote with another quote below.

The numbers filled in are an example. Use your own quotes and the rental company's real additional driver fee.
The calculator leaves out your credit card's cash back, because a travel card usually pays the same rate on either booking. The Executive reward excludes rental car equipment, such as car seats, so leave those out of the Costco total.
What Costco rental cars include
- One additional driver fee waived. Rental companies often charge per day for a second driver, so this can be worth more than a lower base price.
- No cancellation fees. Costco Travel says you can cancel without a fee, which makes it easy to book early and rebook if the price drops.
- Pay at the counter. You book now and pay the rental company when you pick up the car.
- The Executive 2% reward. Costco Travel's rental car page says Executive members earn the annual 2% reward. Costco adds travel to the reward once the trip is complete, and rental car equipment doesn't count.
Drivers under 25 may face extra fees or restrictions; Costco Travel's search asks you to confirm the renter is at least 25.
Does a Costco rental car include insurance?
Costco Travel's list of rental car perks doesn't include insurance, so treat it like any other rental: coverage comes from the rental company at the counter, your own auto policy, or your credit card.
If you pay with a Citi card such as the Costco Anywhere Visa, Citi says you may be covered against theft or damage to the rental car. Is Costco rental car cheaper?
Sometimes, but not always. Compare the same car, dates and pickup location. Costco tends to win when you need a second driver (the waived fee adds up over a long rental) and when you're an Executive member (the 2% back). Because there's no cancellation fee, a good habit is to book through Costco early, then check again closer to the trip and rebook if you find a better price.
