Costco Travel Canada: what you get back, and travel insurance
Costcotravel.ca sells vacation packages, cruises, hotels and rental cars to Costco members. Executive members earn the 2% reward on most of the trip, paid after you travel, and the CIBC Costco Mastercard pays 1% on Costco Travel. Costco Travel doesn't sell travel insurance itself; Costco members get rates from Manulife.
From costcotravel.ca, its Help Centre and Manulife's site for Costco members, checked October 18, 2026.
The Executive reward has a yearly cap of $1,250 across everything you buy at Costco, and travel counts once the trip is complete. A rough guide, not a quote.
The Executive 2% on Costco Travel
Costco Travel Canada says Executive members earn the 2% reward (up to CA $1,250 a year) on qualified purchases made directly from Costco Travel. Three rules matter:
- It counts after the trip. The reward is applied once travel is complete, and you must be an Executive member when travel starts.
- Not everything counts. Taxes, fees, surcharges, gratuities, trip protection, and extras bought through a third party (tours, baggage fees, upgrades, car rental equipment, resort and port charges, cruise line fees) are excluded.
- Extras for Executives. Select packages add a resort credit, a shipboard credit or a Digital Costco Shop Card only for Executive members.
Is the upgrade worth it for you? See Costco Executive in Canada.
Paying with the CIBC Costco Mastercard
Costco Travel says the CIBC Costco Mastercard earns 1% cash back on Costco Travel purchases, not the higher Costco rates. Costco Travel accepts Visa or Mastercard. Run your other spending through the CIBC Costco Mastercard calculator.
Costco travel insurance in Canada (Manulife)
Costco Travel doesn't sell insurance itself. It points members to Manulife, which offers Costco members its own rates, and says Executive members save up to 5% more. You can buy it up to the day you leave.
- Plans: all-inclusive, emergency medical, emergency medical within Canada, trip cancellation and interruption, multi-trip versions, and a top-up to extend coverage you already have. There are also plans for students and for visitors to Canada.
- What it can cover: trip cancellation and interruption, baggage delay or loss, emergency medical costs (up to $5 million on the medical plans), and rental car damage on some plans.
- 10-day free look: a full refund if you cancel within 10 days of buying, as long as you haven't left and there's no claim.
- Quotes and claims: on Manulife's Costco site or at 1-866-707-4922.
We don't quote premiums or rate insurers. Prices depend on your age, health and trip, so get a quote from Manulife.
Travel insurance for seniors
If you're 60 or older, you complete a Medical Questionnaire, which decides whether you qualify and your rate category, and a smoker's surcharge applies if you've smoked or vaped in the past two years (10% on most plans, 5% on the multi-trip all-inclusive plan).
Does the CIBC Costco Mastercard have travel insurance?
Not on CIBC's list. The insurance CIBC lists for the card is mobile device insurance (up to $1,000), purchase security and extended warranty insurance. Travel medical, trip cancellation and rental car insurance are not listed. Costco Travel suggests checking whether your credit card includes travel protection before you book.
Car rentals
Costco Travel Canada lists the same rental car perks as the U.S. site: one additional driver fee waived, book now and pay at the counter, and no cancellation fees. Executive members earn the 2%, but not on car rental equipment. See Costco Travel car rentals.
Booking, paying and cancelling a package
- Deposit: you pay a deposit or the full price to book, and the final payment is charged automatically 45 days before departure.
- Cancelling: online, up to an hour before your flight or hotel check-in. Costco Travel doesn't add its own cancellation fees, but the hotel, airline or cruise line can once their penalty period starts. Refunds take 7 to 10 business days.
- No-show: if you don't cancel and don't show up, the cancellation fee is 100%.
- Digital Shop Cards: emailed about 10 days after your trip starts (3 to 4 weeks for rental cars). They work at Costco warehouses in Canada, the U.S. and Puerto Rico and on Costco.ca, but not at food court kiosks or gas stations.

Can I use Costco Travel Canada without a membership?
No. You need a Costco membership to book, and hotel-only prices are only shown to members. If you join on Costco.ca, you can book by phone right away or online after 24 hours.
Does Costco sell travel insurance?
Not directly. Costco Travel Canada offers Manulife travel insurance at Costco member rates.
