Costco warranty: how long you're really covered
Costco extends the manufacturer's warranty to 2 years on TVs, projectors, computers and major appliances. An Allstate plan from Costco takes TVs and appliances to 5 years, computers to 3, and tablets and cameras to 2, with accidental damage included on the last two. The Costco Visa no longer adds warranty years.

When does your coverage end?
The calculator tracks coverage for defects. Drops, spills, theft and loss aren't covered by any layer, except that Allstate's computer, tablet and camera plans include accidental damage. Dates are approximate; your receipt and plan paperwork win.
How Costco's warranty works, layer by layer
| Layer | How long | Who handles it |
|---|---|---|
| Return window | 90 days for TVs, projectors, major appliances, computers, tablets, smartwatches, cameras, drones and phones. No fixed limit on most other items. | Any warehouse returns counter. See the return policy. |
| Manufacturer's warranty | Usually 1 year. Check the box or manual. | The manufacturer. For TVs, computers and appliances, Costco Concierge can help. |
| Costco's second year | To 2 years from purchase (or delivery) on TVs, projectors, computers and major appliances. | Costco Concierge, 1-866-861-0450. Costco may repair, replace or refund up to the purchase price. |
| Allstate protection plan | Optional. 5 years total on TVs and major appliances, 3 on computers, 2 on tablets and cameras. | Allstate, online or 1-877-927-7268. |
What Costco's 2-year warranty covers
Costco Technical and Warranty Services, which most people call Costco Concierge, extends the manufacturer's warranty to 2 years from the date of warehouse purchase, or the delivery date for Costco.com orders, on:
- Televisions and projectors
- Computers. Touchscreen tablets are excluded.
- Major appliances: refrigerators above 10 cu. ft., freezers, ranges, cooktops, over-the-range microwaves, dishwashers, water heaters, washers and dryers.
The second year follows the manufacturer's warranty terms. Costco lists data backup, software, physical damage, liquid damage and commercial use of a home appliance as common exclusions, and it can meet the second year with a repair, a replacement, or a refund up to what you paid.
Not on the list: tablets, phones, smartwatches, cameras, small appliances and countertop microwaves. Those get the manufacturer's warranty and the 90-day return window. Tablets and cameras can still get an Allstate plan.
What is Costco Concierge?
It's Costco's own support line for the products above: setup help, troubleshooting and warranty help. Call 1-866-861-0450, 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pacific, seven days a week. Costco says calls are handled in the U.S. and the service is for U.S. members only.
Have these ready when you call (Costco's own list): your name, membership number, the Costco item number from your receipt, the item description and model number, the serial number, and the purchase date.
Does the Costco Visa add warranty years?
No, not anymore. The Costco Anywhere Visa by Citi used to add up to 2 years of extended warranty, but that benefit ended after January 22, 2023, and Citi's card page no longer lists it. Articles that stack "2 years Costco plus 2 years Citi" are out of date. Citi does still list Damage & Theft Purchase Protection, which may pay for repairs or a refund if something you bought with the card is damaged or stolen within 120 days. See what the Costco Visa pays you.
Costco warranty on TVs
2 years through the manufacturer and Costco, then years 3 to 5 through an Allstate TV plan. Costco's warranty page gives a TV with an Allstate plan as its example of 5 years of total coverage.
- Covers: mechanical and electrical failure in normal use, with parts and labor and no deductible.
- Doesn't cover: physical damage, intentional damage, loss, theft or commercial use.
- Buy it within 90 days of buying the TV. Each plan covers one TV, and Costco's listing says coverage starts on the day you receive the TV.
- Price: $99.99 for TVs over $1,000 when we checked.
The return window still matters: a TV you don't like goes back within 90 days; a TV that fails after that is a warranty call.
Costco warranty on appliances
Major appliances get 2 years from the purchase date, or the delivery date for Costco.com orders, which matters because delivery can come weeks after you pay. Damage on arrival, like a dented door, is a delivery problem, not a warranty claim.
Allstate's appliance plans work like the TV plans: 5 years total, bought within 90 days (about $90 for appliances under $1,000 when we checked). For years 3 to 5 they add:
- Food spoilage: up to $300 if your refrigerator fails mechanically.
- Laundry: up to $50 if your washer or dryer can't be repaired within 14 days of the first visit.
Bought a washer and dryer together? A laundry suite plan covers the pair with one plan (about $220 for suites $2,000 and up when we checked). A kitchen suite plan does the same for a fridge, range and other kitchen appliances bought together (about $400 for suites over $4,000). Both give 5 years total and must be bought within 90 days. Appliance plans are sold on Costco.com, even if the appliance came from the warehouse.
Costco warranty on laptops and computers
Laptops and desktops get Costco's second year; touchscreen tablets don't. Back up before you call, because data and software aren't covered. Allstate's computer plan is different from the TV plan:
- 3 years total for breakdowns: the manufacturer and Costco for years 1 and 2, Allstate for year 3.
- Accidental damage from day one: drops, spills and cracked screens, which neither the manufacturer nor Costco covers.
- 30 days to buy it, not 90.
- Mail-in repair with a prepaid label, or a replacement or reimbursement. About $100 for computers above $500 when we checked.
Costco warranty on tablets and cameras
Tablets and cameras get the 90-day return window and the manufacturer's warranty, but not Costco's second year. They have their own Allstate plan:
- 2 years total: the manufacturer for year 1, Allstate for year 2.
- Accidental damage from day one: cracked screens, liquid damage and drops.
- 30 days to buy it, on Costco.com, even if the tablet came from the warehouse.
- Covers tablets, cameras and GoPros. Drones are excluded, and there's no Allstate plan for phones or smartwatches. About $80 for items over $750 when we checked.
Tires and car batteries
- Tires: a 5-year road hazard warranty plus lifetime rotation, balancing and flat repair. See the Costco Tire Center.
- Car batteries: Interstate batteries sold at Costco carry their own free-replacement warranty, printed on the battery's label. Bring the battery and your membership card to the Tire Center.
Common questions
Does Costco have a lifetime warranty?
No. The satisfaction guarantee covers returns, not repairs, and electronics and major appliances have a 90-day return limit. After that, it's the manufacturer, then Costco's second year, then Allstate if you bought a plan.
Do I need my receipt?
It helps. Costco keeps your purchases under your membership number, but the item number on the receipt speeds up a warranty call.
Does the Costco warranty cover accidental damage?
Costco's second year doesn't, and neither do the Allstate TV and appliance plans. The Allstate computer, tablet and camera plans do.
Can I buy the Allstate plan later?
Within 90 days for a TV or major appliance, and within 30 days for a computer, tablet or camera. Costco's TV plan listing says coverage starts on the day you receive the TV, so a plan bought a few weeks later still counts from then.
Can I cancel an Allstate plan?
Allstate's Costco terms allow cancelling a fixed-term plan for a refund of the plan price. Return it at Costco or call Costco at 1-800-955-2292.
Does the 2-year warranty apply to Costco.com purchases?
Yes. The 2 years count from the delivery date instead of the purchase date.
Is it the same for Gold Star and Executive members?
Costco's warranty page doesn't tell the tiers apart. It's for U.S. members.
What about phones?
Phones get the 90-day return window and the manufacturer's warranty. Costco's second year doesn't apply, and Costco doesn't sell an Allstate plan for them.
