What's included
- Every membership: shopping at any Costco warehouse worldwide and on Costco.ca, two cards, and Costco's promise to refund the fee at any time if you're not satisfied.
- Executive adds: the 2% annual reward on eligible Costco and Costco Travel purchases (up to $1,250), a $10 monthly credit on one Same-Day or Costco-via-Instacart order of $150 or more, and extra discounts on Costco Services.
- Business adds: you can buy for resale (except liquor, unless the law allows it) and add affiliates.
The household card goes to one person, 16 or older, who lives at your address and can prove it. Members must be at least 16.
Is Executive worth the extra $65?
Executive costs $65 more and pays for itself once your reward-earning purchases pass about $271 a month ($3,250 a year). Gas, tobacco, the food court and Shop Cards don't count. Work it out with your own spending: Costco Executive calculator for Canada.
Ways to pay less
- CIBC offer: Costco.ca says new Executive members get $65 back when they apply and are approved for a CIBC Costco Mastercard or CIBC Costco Business Mastercard. Terms apply; see Costco's offer page. Compare the card with the CIBC Costco Mastercard calculator.
- Group offers: Costco.ca lists new-member offers for students, teachers, healthcare workers, first responders and military members, verified through Student Beans. The offer itself is shown after you verify, so check it there.
- Upgrade later: you can start with Gold Star and upgrade at a membership counter. Costco prorates the $65 upgrade for the months left, but purchases made before upgrading don't earn the reward.
Common questions
How much is a Costco membership in Canada in 2026?
$65 a year for Gold Star or Business and $130 for Executive, plus sales tax. That's the same number in Canadian dollars as the U.S. price in U.S. dollars.

With one person in your household, using the free second card. They must be 16 or older and live at your address. A Business membership can add more people for $65 each.

Yes. Costco says your card works at any Costco warehouse worldwide. Costco.ca's 2% reward certificate, though, can only be redeemed in Canada.
Can I get my membership fee back?
Yes, at any time if you're not satisfied. If you're an Executive member, Costco Canada's terms say you won't receive the 2% reward when you cancel with a refund or downgrade. See the Canadian return policy.
Is there a free Costco membership?
No. The closest is the $65 CIBC offer for new Executive members, or Costco's refund if you change your mind.
